I recently enjoyed two photo shoots with Bath Burlesque superstar, Geisha Go Disco AKA Gem. A Welsh-Aussie, she’s recently started a new venture called, aptly, The House of Go Disco, which is a Bath-based agency where the best in burlesque and alternative models can be booked for your own special events or photoshoots. There’s a growing roster of talent so if you’re planning an event, take a look at her website.
The first shoot took place on a sunny Summer day in the streets of Bath. I had brought a Bowens Gemini studio light and Travelpak battery but decided to work with natural light and open shade, first using same nearby green park space before an outfit change and a walk around the Georgian architecture of Bath. Bath throws up brilliant background after brilliant background – weathered hamstone walls, interesting architectural features, fabulous painted doorways and archways just crying out to be used.
Gem’s makeup was immaculate and looked stunning in a both a custom-made dress and a bold black and white polka-dot number from the increasingly legendary Vivien of Holloway. A keen aficionado of all things glamourous and vintage, she even had some collectible BabySham glasses, the perry drink that was once brewed in the West Country.
The second shoot was back at my home studio, with a high key white background, showing off two of Geisha Go Disco’s recent burlesque performance outfits.
